Right, So no more than two weeks into the year 2009 and I had to deal with some typical undergraduate ingenuity.
I had to yet again work with someone who decided to commit the infernal crime of plagiarism. I could have flung the very content of my backpack in the direction of the plaintive (comprising of several heavy text books).
But no. I overcame my rage and just asked calmly that the persons in question were to please explain their dishonesty.
My comment of course was at first greeted with astonishment as to how I figured out the dirty scheme within a glance, upon which I said that I could have proven it within five seconds by pasting the first sentence in parentheses in the google search bar (the paragraph started out with a typical american [pruh-nuhn-see-ey-shuhn]-aid, and still had some hyperlinks).
After this experience, I almost feel compelled to write a book: ‘Plagiarism for the intellectually challenged: quick easy steps on how to avoid getting caught’.
Not long after it became apparent that I had the plagiarist nailed, came the plea for mercy, ‘But everyone else is doing it’.
Now, I am not one to brag incessantly over meaningless victories on the verbal battlefield, but my reply to the above atrocity is one I would say I am rather satisfied with, and would even say had a touch of possible wisdom in it. When I renounced their plagiaristic efforts as futile, I supplied the reason thereof being that there really was no lack of intelligence amongst the aforementioned persons so as to need to usurp another persons work. And I sincerely meant it that they were not stupid. I blame it on laziness.
Now the reason for my pedantically verbose recounting of these events, which I apologize for profusely, is in truth serving for the noble purpose to remain in a low a key as possible, dodging the glances of dull criticism. I hope I shall not have the need to write in such a way again.
